Piaggio recalls 1,623 motorcycles

Aprilia Tuono 1000 R, RSV 1000 and Moto Guzzi Norge 1200 affected

Piaggio USA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall notice on Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycles.

Piaggio, the parent company of Aprilia and Moto Guzzi, is recalling 2005-2007 Aprilia Tuono 1000 R and RSV 1000 motorcycles equipped with Bitron SPA fuel pumps/filters. The fuel hose that connects the fuel filter to the mounting flange may come loose, causing a drop or loss of fuel pressure, which would cause the engine to stall. A total of 977 motorcycles may be affected.

Dealers will install a replacement fuel hose and attachment clamps from Bitron at no charge.A faulty fuel hose connection has led to the recall of 2005-2007 Aprilia Tuono 1000 R and RSV 1000 bikes.

Faulty wiring in the Triom headlights installed on 2007-2008 Moto Guzzi Norge 1200 motorcycles has lead to the recall of 646 machines. A ‘pigtail’ wire connecting the low beam bulb to the motorcycle’s wiring harness may come in contact with the headlight reflector. The insulation on the wire may wear over time, causing a short which may cause the bike’s main fuse to blow and cut all electrical power.

Dealers will install a replacement bulb with extra protection around the wire at no charge.

Owners of the affected machines are asked to contact Piaggio at 212-380-4431.
